Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

    Cake batter

  • 2 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Red food coloring

    Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 12 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Recipe Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour two 8” cake pans.
  • Whisk together eggs, oil, buttermilk, vinegar, butter, vanilla and food coloring.
  • Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt. 
  • Add in the liquid mixture and mix on speed 2 until just combined.
  • Divide batter into cake pans and bake 35-40 mins. 
  • Beat together cream cheese, butter and vanilla for 3 minutes or until smooth. Add powdered sugar and beat for 2 minutes or until frosting is light and fluffy. Add more powdered sugar if necessary to reach desired consistency.
