Irish Brown Bread

Products Used

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup white flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp molasses

Recipe Instructions

Preheat oven to 400F.
Mix together flours, oats, salt, and baking soda. Add in buttermilk and molasses. Mix until just combined.
Knead into a ball and press into a 2-inch thick circle. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. With a knife, cut a deep cross into the dough. Sprinkle with oats. 
Bake for 40 minutes or until bread sounds hollow if you tap on the base.
